Ethical, Sustainably-Minded Clothing:
Thoughtful Design
We design our clothing to use materials efficiently. We also design our clothing so that you’ll want them, will wear them for longer, and will have options when you’re done with them.
Customer-Involved Design
We will routinely survey customers for what they actually want in clothing - and those very requests will show up in our lines. Customer-involved design leads to less wasted inventory for us and clothing that won’t just end up in the back of the closet for you.
Versatility
We will design many of our items with expanded functionality so you can keep our clothing in your wardrobe for longer. Maybe it’s a top you can wear a few different ways so you get multiple looks out of it. Maybe it’s trousers that adjust sizes easily so you can keep them through all of those natural body changes. Or, maybe it’s a dress with subtle nursing access so you can keep wearing it even after you’re done nursing – or even if you were never nursing.
Quality Materials and Construction
You won’t find throw away pieces on our (virtual) shelves. We choose high quality fabrics, notions, and construction methodologies so that you can enjoy your pieces for a long time.
Smart Markers
In technical-cutting speak, a marker is a blueprint of how to arrange pattern pieces on a length of fabric. Efficient markers try to use up every bit of space possible so as to reduce fabric scraps that often end up in the trash. We’re committed to not only using efficient markers, but also to designing in a way that allows for more efficient layouts.
Pre-Orders and Limited Runs
We can cut down on wasted fabric, notions, packaging, transport emissions, etc. by moving away from the ready-to-wear instant shipping sales model, and towards a slow fashion model instead. Pre-orders, for which we only produce your item once we know you want it, and limited runs, for which we only produce small batches of a given item with deadstock fabric, are approaches we use – and both are a part of the slow fashion movement aimed at mitigating ecological harm.
Lifecycle Design
We want you to love your garment, and we also want you to have some options other than the bin when you’re done with it. As a starting point, our quality materials and construction means our garments will hold up well in the resale market. And then we also choose fabrics that are either only one fiber type or are minimally blended. This allows for easier recycling and/or composting when it’s time. Down the road once we are a little more established, we hope to launch a take-back or new life-program. In this program, you’d be able to send us back your used items for us to repurpose and/or recycle on your behalf.
